Studio of Unconscious Music (SUM) [Студия Неосознанной Музыки, СНМ] is a Trans-Siberian experimental formation, founded in 2005. SUM is not a music group in a usual sense of the term, but a sort of community or even free institute, the participants of which embody rather wide spectrum of music ideas under the common label – over the range from dance electronic to new improvised music and jazz-punk. It is hard to define any plain stylistic orientation in the acts of SUM – because styles themselves act there as instruments.

«Techno» is one of the subprojects of Studio of Unconscious Music, a fruit of collaboration between the founder of SUM multi-instrumentalist Alexander Markvart and the frontman of apocalyptic-improv church Sect of Phoenix Max Evstropov. «Techno»-project of SUM was first presented to public in November 2012 in the forge shop on the Karl Marx factory in Saint-Petersburg, Russia.

«Techno» is practically a song program consisting of numbers with hard rhythmic base constructed from loops in real time, with dense industrial sound and insane texts on bare life, sung sometimes in several voices. Apocalyptic dance music that can be christened as no-techno by analogy with no-wave.

Cyclophrenia is an affiliate of Studio of Unconscious Music (Kemerovo) launched in 2007. The key factor for the choice of its name, first of all, was the specifics of music manufacturing, and also the repetition & revolution of all (the term «cyclophrenia» also exists in the lexicon of psychiatry, where it designates the manic-depressive psychosis). Compositional basis of the overwhelming majority of Cyclophrenia’s acts is a sound loop supplemented by improvisational elements. And the beginning of the cycle is inevitably a touch, puncture, punctum – a sound-making proper by heterogeneous improvised means (cyclophrenic toolkit includes such diverse objects as guitar, screwdriver, piano, drill, egg, bayan, synthesizers, rice, flute, TV-set, candelabrum etc.) – and further everything moves in a circle of repetition in some suspended time, turning around & away from the point of its origin. Another specific method – relating composing by now – is the hours-long listening to a sound loop that enables to reach an effect of deep immersion into the revolution & repetition of all. The work of cyclophrenic enterprise is lead by Alexander Markvart.

An experiment Six Improvisations on a Wire recorded in spring 2008 belongs to the early stage of functioning of Cyclophrenia. The initial point of the cycle here is making a sound out of a bare wire, which is further being processed; no additional equipment is used at that. This opus is made of six improvisations of half an hour’s length played in one night and then sequentially laid over each other.

Циклофрения – дочернее предприятие Студии Неосознанной Музыки (Кемерово), появившееся на свет в 2007 году. Определяющей для выбора его названия стала, прежде всего, специфика приёмов производства музыки, а также повторяемость и вращаемость всего (термин «циклофрения» наличествует также в лексиконе психиатрии, где обозначает маниакально-депрессивный психоз). Композиционную основу подавляющего большинства актов Циклофрении составляет звуковая петля, дополняемая импровизационными элементами. При этом началом цикла неизбежно служит касание, прокол, punctum – собственно извлечение звука из разного рода подручных средств (в состав циклофренического инструментария входят такие разнообразные объекты, как гитара, отвёртка, фортепиано, дрель, яйцо, баян, синтезаторы, рис, блок-флейта, телевизор, подсвечник и т.д.) – и далее всё движется по петле повторения в некоем подвешенном времени, от-вращаясь от точки своего истока. Ещё одним характерным приёмом, касающимся на этот раз уже компонирования музыкальных актов, является многочасовое прослушивание заведённой петли, чем достигается эффект плотного погружения в повторяемость и вращаемость всего. Работой циклофренического предприятия руководит Александр Маркварт.

Эксперимент 6 импровизаций на проводе, записанный весной 2008 г., относится к ранней стадии функционирования Циклофрении. Точкой начала цикла здесь служит извлечение звука из оголённого провода, в дальнейшем подвергающееся процессорной обработке; никакой дополнительный инструментарий при этом не используется. Опус представляет собой шесть последовательно наложенных друг на друга получасовых импровизаций, сыгранных за одну ночь.
